What's going on lately
Well... I have to start by saying that on ships are much more rules and procedures than on land. So as a new member of crew, you cannot know, learn or remember all of them in the first weeks. For example, my roommate Kiki never turns off the light in the room so we always keep it open. One day, one of our supervisors told me that we have to pay for what exceeds the electricity bill. I got scared so I turned off the lights every time. Kiki noticed and asked why so I told her. “I'm not making that much money to pay the extra money on the electricity bill...”
“Who the fuck told you that?!” she replied laughing like hell.
Or the time when they said one evening that I was on fog watch. It meant to go near the bridge with lifejacket, flashlight and everything and if it's foggy to start flashing to the bridge to let them know :)
Me and Kiki were isolated last week. She told me one day she's feeling sick and to go to the medical center with her. So we went there and the doctors started asking so much questions; for how many days are you in this condition, do you have fever, coughing, sneezing, what pills you took, what's the blood pressure, what did you ate, who you've been in contact with, bla bla bla ... I didn't know what's happening. So they separated us in different cabins for 48 hours. It was weird speaking just on the phone with her because nobody was allowed to enter her cabin and she wasn't allowed to get out from there.
I won't talk about how awful I'm in the casino, but I'll tell you one funny story. We had this guest, very very friendly, who loved playing three card poker. So one evening I'm dealing at this table and he's coming to play with me. Whenever a dealer gets tipped, he has to ring this bell. The player sees the bell and rings it. Imagine, he was a little bit dunk. “Oh, now I have to tip you.” He tips me and rings the bell again. “Oh, no, I have to tip you again.” So he tips me again, I was getting all red... So I ring the bell for the second time and the throws another 5 dolars on the table. I'm looking at the supervison near me thinking “What the hell is this guy doing, is he crazy?!” And she says “ Take it.” I take the tips, ring the bell, thank him, pepare my cards for another hand, he goes again ringing the bell and throwing tips. OMG... he did that several times, we were laughing a lot that evening.
Wait, I'm thinking what to tell you next...
Oh, yes. We didn't get to see Taormina, Italy because we had rough seas and instead of one sea day this cruise we had two sea days, we couldn't get to the port. They say it happens. At least I wasn't panicking like I usually do, “omg omg, rough seas, we're gonna die” :D
I have to go back before the ship sails without me.
Talk to you next time ;)
